It’s finally happened – there is no denying it – Winter is here! Ok, ok, so I agree we had a pretty good run at in the end, so I suppose I can’t really complain too much about it feeling slightly Autumnal in October. Now, besides the clocks changing, the leaves falling off the trees and the coat you forgot you owned becoming a permanent fixture – what good news can November bring?
I’ll tell you what good news – it means its time to get your house winter ready! Yipee!!! Now I’m not talking practical terms here, no way. I’m not meaning sealing the double glazing units or ensuring the damp course is still intact. No, I mean the perfect opportunity to fill your home with beautiful things in preparation for the harsh winter. Time to cheer the place up and make it your winter wonderland!
Now, we are all busy people (hugely successful, beautiful people obviously – and therefore always busy) so I cannot stress to you the advantages of shopping online – you might find that your stuck in the boardroom just too late to hit the shops or you might (like me) be so fearful of putting foot inside any beautiful shops because that means taking 2 much smaller people with you that have the very real potential of doing so much damage that you honestly can’t afford to go into nice shops anymore. Whichever category you fall into the answer is shop online.
Thankfully for me, even though I can’t currently go inside beautiful shops, I can still get my fix online by visiting beautifully curated websites instead! One of my very favourite sites at the moment is Amara Living. So, with a piping hot up of coffee and my laptop open during the very Best hour of the day (nap time) I’m going to give you a quick rundown of my best buys to cheer your house up this winter.
Throws – As you know I cannot get enough of throws and blankets (what’s the difference? Answers on a postcard please) To be honest you just can’t get enough throws. If in doubt, get a throw. And if (unlikely, but if) you fee you’ve got too many throws, go for rugs. The fluffier the better. There are so many natural fibres and quality products around at the moment, I deny you to resist.
Candles – We all dream of an open inglenook fire roaring away as we read by the warm glow (although, seriously have you ever tried doing anything by fire light – I can promise you it’s pretty useless compared to a good old 60 watt bulb). Anyway, we don’t all have lovely open fires – but you can recreate the best bits of those by using candles. They look beautiful, they smell divine and they make brilliant gifts. As an aside, if you don’t fancy the whole naked flame thing, but love the smell then diffusers are definitely the way forward. For those of you less familiar with diffusers, think joss sticks for grown-ups!
Wool –I am slightly obsessed with anything that is woollen. I love it, always have, always will. I know some people think it’s too scratchy and they don’t like being super warm, but I love it! So, what better way to welcome the incoming winter than buying some beautiful cashmere cardigans, wraps, or merino socks and scarves – think wool and my favourite colour this year – grey. Perfect.
Tableware – If its cold outside and you’re in the UK then you HAVE to drink tea. It’s the law. A perfect way to make that cuppa even better is with fabulous mugs. Chose ones that make you smile (but maybe keep them away from small fingers – replacing crockery on a daily basis is a pricey business).
Kitchenware – Now, if you love tea but are also adore coffee then I cannot proclaim the glory of a decent cafetiere. I could write a whole post on coffee machines, from all spangled Gagia machines to on the hob old school style. To be blunt it doesn’t really matter as long as you can drink it at the end, but there is now a new criteria for your coffee vestibule – beauty and I mean beauty and my favourite texture of the moment: Copper. You’ll find copper everywhere at the moment – embrace this its fabulous and ideal for autumn.
1. Helen Moore Hot Water Bottle – Truffle 2. Designer Guild Samarinda Oasis Throw 3. Johnstons of Elgin 100% Cashmere Grey Shawl 4. Iron & Clay Hammered Bowl – Copper / Black – Large 5. Tom Dixon Brew Cafetiere – Copper 6. Bloomingville Neutral/White Baskets – Set of 2 7. Scion Spike Mugs 8. Natures Collection Tibetan Sheepskin Rug – Arctic Sunrise 9. Voluspa Maison Blanc Boxed Candle – Elysian Garden 10. Max Benjamin Fragrance Diffuser – Lemongrass & Ginger
